Scanning fiber endoscopy

Adam W. Templeton, MD from the University of Washington presents this video case titled “Scanning fiber endoscopy: a novel platform for cholangioscopy” from the VideoGIE section.

In this video we demonstrate our initial experience with a novel new cholangioscope. This cholangioscope allows for improved imaging of the bile duct using otherwise standard ERCP technique and allows for directed biopsy

The images largely speak for themselves. Currently available technology requires either a considerably large sphincterotomy with dilation to evaluate indeterminant biliary lesions . This new platform may help advance both diagnosis and therapy into the bile duct.

Technology to access and adequately image the bile duct is at hand; the next step will be utilizing these modalities to optimize patient outcomes.
